Here’s a short 2-track release from the Japanese netlabel, Bumpfoot, by “403″, who has also released on another Japanese netlabel, Muraokoshi. That release had an amazing track, “Password”, an epic d’n'b stormer with a beautiful melody that sticks in your head for a long time.
The Unmute EP doesn’t differ that much sonically from his earlier output - but don’t let that stop you from checking it out if you’ve already heard “Password”. 403 combines a frantic skittering beat and plain, expressive, breezy, dreamy melodies on the first track “unmute”. I can just imagine myself in a Hikari bullet train with the landscape of Japan zooming past me as I listen to this track.
The second track - “white sheep” is more on the trippy side, with a slower breakbeat backbone, and though it still employs similar textures used in “unmute”, it doesn’t feel stale. I like the use of the female vocal fx. Reminds me of an old Gescom EP.
A pleasant experience checking out my first Japanese netlabel !
