Choenyi’s been one busy producer. A quick glance at his Discogs page reveals 3 releases on 3 different labels in 2007 alone (!) and countless appearances on mixes on other netlabels.

His latest, “Transfer Protocol”, on the Detroit based Random Access Recordings, follows Adjacent Mucosa (Miniatura Records) and Defervescence (Yuki Yaki).

“Transfer Protocol” is best described as a slab of mostly spacious, dark and brooding minimal techno. The eponymous opening track features a truly evil and omnipresent deep bass rumble and some spooky atmospherics.

“Circus End” defies all comparison and attempts at classification, but I’ll try - it sounds like dub played way too fast! A very hypnotic track and an involving listen as complex sounds constantly swirl around, this one is anything but minimal techno. It sounds like a chaotic yet beautiful dream. Moving on, “Hematopietic” is less minimal, more layered and more accessible than the other tracks, while still continuing the brooding theme of the release.

Choenyi has shown that the minimal sound can be hard hitting and powerful too.
