Once in a while, you come across a record that is so strange yet conventional. Lost in Beats is a great Dance/Lounge album that presents us with a weird but effective mixture of house-esque dance music with chilled guitar/sax downtempo tunes that gets you fired up on one track and makes you wanna just lay back and relax on the next. I’m usually not into the dance music that circulates around the local clubs as they are usually full of commercial hip hop tunes and cheese. Thankfully the dance tracks on this album don’t really over feature those “cool as hell rapper rhymes” and focuses more on the music side of things. This would probably make me wanna boogie more than any of the tracks popular with the club crowd these days.
Although the theme of the dance tracks is dance, it does have a more chilled atmosphere to it due to the use of guitars and sax. In addition tracks like “Weekender” do bear resemblance to the disco tunes of yesteryears giving it that retro feel. The beats though are 100% modern and this is really what makes the dance tracks so appealing. The dance tracks on the album represent a blend of old and new in a fun package that will get you grooving to the tunes in a matter of seconds.
So, if you haven’t made up your mind whether you wanna chill or party this weekend, play this album and you can have both.
Note: Some tracks on the album have quite a bit of pop and cracking noise. It may be due to recording issue or may be an intended effect. This may annoy those who listen to it on high end stereo systems
Favourite tracks:
Vision - The best dance track on the whole album.
Going for a ride - Another good dance track with a great vocal sample.
Lost in Horns - Downtempo track featuring those “cool as hell rapper rhymes” but appropriately without overemphasis.
Night & Day - A more jazzy affair coupled with ethnic sounding drums.
