Yea! I’m finally back on G’vibes - its been a frantic last two weeks of cramming for university exams - but its finally over! And what better way to celebrate than to review the latest and greatest netlabel releases? :)

Up for review today is the stunning “Secret Melodies” by Mr. Incognito, released on the Phonocake netlabel based in Dresden, Germany. I also hear he’s put out a 12″ acid record on Drop Bass Network. Well, then he is surely is a pretty diverse artist since “Secret Melodies” is mostly an ambient, IDM album - but an innovative one and pretty unique too.

But this is without doubt one of the best releases I’ve had the pleasure of listening and reviewing on Gratisvibes. It has really beautiful fragile melodies and melancholic, dreamlike sounds.

The production is also extremely polished - he makes great use of reverb and other effects to create a big “wall of sound” on some of these tracks. The tracks themselves are extremely diverse too - ranging from the ambient, glitchy, slowed-down hip hop beats of “vezi plat” to the jackhammer beats of “microscope”, and even some 4/4 on “tiapolis”. I just love how each track slowly unfolds, offering up pleasant sonic surprises now and then while at the same time building a complex tapestry of lush melodic texture.

This is one release you really must check out if you’re an IDM fan - and Mr. Incognito has got 2 more releases on Phonocake - so them check them out too!
