From the wacky Superbutton label, comes the irreverently named PDF Format and his album “Alice Part One….”. This one has a really ‘happy’ vibe to it. Very cute, this wouldn’t sound out of place on a cartoon in any era. But its a short release, clocking in at 11 minutes (4 tracks).

“Alice Part One…” was made on a Commodore 64 for that 8bit sound. The lovely squeal and buzz of the Commodore SID soundchip is adequately demonstrated on all 4 tracks, which range from the sentimental (”Gens Song”) to the offbeat (”Looking For Cookies Then Finding and Eating Them”), which sounds like it was composed as a theme to a kids detective show. Cool !

This is a great chiptune release, PDF Format shows off great versatility (alternating between electro, theme song and pop) and a good sense of melody.

Don’t forget to check out the rest of the Superbutton site, they have comics and cartoons too in addition to other music releases.

Standout track: Gens Song - the best of the lot!
