The Chill Conspiracy manages to achieve what its namesake implies. Glory and Shame serves up ample amounts of chilled piano sounds, bass, atmospherics and drums in a triphop/chillout album. What made the album stand out from other triphop/chillout albums that I have heard before is that the Chill Conspiracy adds a new age blend to the triphop genre. A number of the tracks feature melodic piano hooks that instantly captures your attention. The piano and instrumental samples have a familiar quality to them and I can’t help but think that I’ve heard them somewhere before. All this adds up to a very memorable album - a first for chillout albums that I have listened to.
Some of my favourite tracks from the album are:
Pianobar V5 - Great intro track and sets the mood for the rest of the album.
Burning skies - A bit repetitive but the piano tune is really catchy. The piano variation inserted in the middle of the track isn’t really all that great though.
Moments - The bass and strings rock this track. Moody and exquisite.
Dis Moi - This track reminds me of the work of Thievery Corporation and that’s a good thing.
