The genre of IDM has always been a contentious one with many people having their own interpretations of what music can actually be classified IDM. One thing that is certain is that most IDM music involves the use of complex beat patterns and possibly various weird non-musical noises. New Age music, on the other hand, is the stuff you hear from people like Enya which is usually devoid of complex beats and serves to make you float in space with the use of lush pads, laid back instrumentation and possibly vocals.

The genres of IDM and new age are as disparate as they come and never have I thought that these two genres could fuse to create some sort of new age IDM. A few weeks ago, I stumbled across a netlabel -Camomile- that essentially features this kind of sound in their releases. Intrigued, I took a look at their latest release and was pleasantly surprised to find an artist whose work I’m already familiar with on the release. I’ve listened to Mikael Fyrek’s music on the Kahvi IDM Netlabel before and found his music to be quite likeable. The other half of Tang Kai is Jenny Tang Kai who provides the vocals for this EP. On listening to the EP, I found a unique blend of genres wrapped in a 4 track EP that shouldn’t be passed up by the avid electronic music listener.

Favourite Tracks:
Further Away - This track features more of the same Mikael Fyrek style that I liked from his kahvi releases

Sand Castles - Of all the tracks with vocals, I liked this one best as it gave me the feeling of a movie theme song.

P.S. I have very little experience with new age music and would gladly like to know what you, our readers who may be more in tuned with the genre, have to say about this unique sounding EP. So, feel free to flame/comment. ;)
