As promised a few months back, I’ve returned to Quiet Lounge, the netlabel based in China, to check out their new releases. They’ve got a nice diverse catalogue, with recent releases spanning minimal techno, industrial techno and chillout as well! This time however I tried out some Goa Trance.

I’ve never really had much Goa Trance listening experience, and despite the negativity I’ve heard about the genre from others, I really wanted to hear for myself what its really like.

Tri Guna’s “Vishnu” on the whole is dense, pumping and at the same time somewhat mystical and eerie. It starts off with the intense and hard hitting Ritual, which I think needs to be heard while on certain mind-altering chemicals to be experienced fully! Real sensory overload on this track!

Upanisad slows things down, removing it from the dance-floor and adds a nice touch with the Indian instruments hidden subtly in the background.

Vishnu, the last track, carries on the theme with the overlaying of Hindu chants, continuing in the same vein as “Ritual”, a high-bpm bass heavy workout, with resonant acid squelches. The only gripe I had with this track is that it ended too abruptly and that the intensity never lets up for a breather, there’s not much in the way of nicely constructed breakdowns that build up again…

Maybe when I get my hands on “certain” substances, I will revisit this EP!
