The “Core” is a nice little EP of quirky, upbeat 808 patterns, and analogue blips and basses. The first three tracks, “Core”, “Runner” and “Figure” are a little on the slow side, but are sufficiently odd and experimental for the electro genre, so its worth a careful listen. I liked the playful and casual nature in the structure of the basslines and the drum machine. Although it does sound simple and quirky, the first half of the EP does convey a cold and detached atmosphere as well.
The 3 remixes in the second half up the tempo significantly - of which the “Phase for Stereo remix” is my favourite. Halfadder adds dancefloor dynamics and a dirty electric guitar fuzz in his reimagining of “Core” while Milieu’s “Lattice Trees and Pearls Remix” heads off into ambient IDM territory.
